11/18/00 - Auction Action Tracker 2.8.3 has been released, and should fix the problems that 2.8.2 had with completed auctions.

11/17/00 - Auction Action Tracker 2.8.2 has been released. This version should fix problems with improper parsing of auction information. If you notice any problems, please let me know.

11/17/00 - AAT Problems

Hello,

I would like to officially acknowledge the parsing problems with Auction Action Tracker. This issue can cause auction information to be displayed incorrectly. These problems are due to a format change eBay has made.

Today I will be working on a fix, to be released as Auction Action Tracker 2.8.2. Thanks for your understanding, and thanks to all the users who reported this issue.

--Travis

9/23/00 - Auction Action Tracker 2.8.1 has been released. This release adds minor enhancements to the Bid window to maintain compatibility with eBay. Download it here!

7/6/00 - Auction Action Tracker 2.8 has been released. This release restores the functionality of the Auto Load command, as well as correcting the use of eBay Motors items. Download it here!

6/13/00 - Auction Action Tracker 2.7.9 has been released. This release fixes a few issues. Download it here!

New features and improvements:
•Parsing of auctions with non-US currencies has been fixed.
•AAT will now properly handle eBay Motors auctions.
•A bug in parsing titles has been fixed. This bug would affect auctions with HTML in their titles (which eBay does not approve of, but doesn't prevent).
•When loading or updating items, AAT will now automatically reconnect in the event of a socket disconnect. This comes in handy when eBay is experiencing server trouble.

4/3/00 - Auction Action 2.7.8 has been released. This release adds compatibility with a recent eBay bidding change, as well as some simple improvements. Download it here!

New features and improvements:
•The bidding section of Auction Action Tracker has been updated for compatibility with an eBay change. Bids should no longer stop at "Receiving data..."
•Reserve auctions now properly display their status in the Auction Status windows.
•The Ban window now has a "View In Browser" button, allowing banned items to be viewed in a browser without first having to add them to the Item List then back to the Ban List.
•Added a new "Export:Selected as Tab-Delimited Text" menu item. This functions in the same manner as the "Export:All as Tab-Delimited Text" menu item, except that it only exports the selected items to the desired file.
•The "Export:Tab-Delimited Text" menu item has been renamed to "Export:All as Tab-Delimited Text".
•Bid windows will now automatically fill in "1" into the quantity field.
•The option modifier key will no longer be watched for if the application is in the background.
•Small error corrected with saving cache files created from the Update Item List function when updating invalid items.

02/02/00 - A problem was introduced with Auction Action Tracker 2.7.6 that prevented the Auto Load function from returning items the user had bid on. I have fixed this problem and released Auction Action Tracker 2.7.7 in the form of a patch. This patch is a small application that will update a copy of Auction Action Tracker 2.7.6 to version 2.7.7. Users that have already downloaded AAT 2.7.6 need only download and apply this patch.

The patch can be downloaded here. Note: If you are a new user or have AAT 2.7.5 or earlier, you can download the full version of AAT 2.7.7 here.

01/28/00 - Auction Action Tracker 2.7.6 has been released. Download it here!

This release adds compatibility with an eBay server switch. If not fixed, this would cause the Auto Load feature to not always work (not return any items).

01/20/00 - Auction Action Tracker 2.7.5 has been released. Download it here!

New features and improvements:
•Auction Action Tracker will now work properly with a future eBay enhancement. This enhancement is currently partially implemented, so this release was necessary.
•The "&" symbol is now properly displayed in auction titles.
•Minor change in the Time section of the preferences.

01/19/00 [4:00 PM] - I have found the problem with Auction Action Tracker, and am working hard on the fix. Auction Action Tracker 2.7.5 should be out later tonight (probably some time after midnight).

01/19/00 [11:00 AM] - It seems that there is a server inconsistency at eBay, causing Auction Action Tracker to improperly parse auction data some of the time. I am working on finding the cause of this problem.

If this happens to you, try updating just the affected items.

01/03/00 - Auction Action Tracker 2.7.4 has been released. Download it here!

New features and improvements:
•The "View:Remove Duplicates" menu item function will now remember the Priority checks in the new Priority column. I seemed to overlook this in the last release.
•The Ban List and Ban features have been updated to support the new Priority column from the previous release.
•Banned items will no longer be added to the Item List (the purpose of banned items) when using the Auto Load method. I did not realize it, but the time zone conversion feature, added in 2.5, made this feature stop working.
•Fixed a minor refresh issue with deleting items from the Item List.
•The delete key can now be used to delete items from the Ban List (just like the Item List).

01/02/00 - Auction Action Tracker 2.7.4 should be released sometime tomorrow. It will fix the incompatibilities between the new Priority column and the Remove Duplicates feature, as well as implementing the new Priority system into the Ban List. My apologies for not implementing this in 2.7.3, I seemed to overlook it.

12/31/99 [8:00 PM] - NiftyCountdown 1.5.3 has been released and is now Y2K compliant. Download it here!

New features and improvements:
Fix for Y2K compatibility, and just in time too. I removed the faulty method (which I did not write), and wrote a new one to replace it. This new method also does not rely on setting your system region, it should work fine in any country without any adjustment (you will notice the System Date Format Region preferences option has been removed).

12/31/99 [2:00 PM] - A NiftyCountdown user reported that NiftyCountdown is not Y2K compliant, giving either an error or bad information when used in 2000. The problem lies in the method that converts a date string to a seconds integer, which ironically is the only thing that I did not write. I will try to return NiftyCountdown to its normal state this afternoon.

Another bug has been reported, this time involving Auction Action Tracker. Apparently, the "Remove Duplicates" function (in the View menu) will remove any Priority checks from the new Priority column. I will try to fix this shortly. Until then, keep this in mind before using the "Remove Duplicates" function.

12/28/99 - Auction Action Tracker 2.7.3 is out, my apologies for the delay. Download it here!

New features and improvements:
•New "Priority" column in the Item List. This column has a checkbox allowing users to make a note that this item is important to them. The Priority column is sortable, and can be sorted multiple ways by first sorting by another way. For example, to sort items by Priority, but also sort the Priority and non-Priority groups by End Date, simply sort by End Date and then by Priority.
•The new "Priority" column in the Item List has been taken into account in the "Export As Tab-Delimited Text" function.
•Additional HTTP commands are now sent to eBay to help clear up the problem of auctions not updating due to ISP caching. This is also used in the "Check For New Version" feature to ensure fresh data.
•Fixed sorting code for proper End Date sorting in the Item List. If this was not fixed, items ending in the new year would be sorted at the beginning of the Item List, instead of at the end (while "00" comes before "99", "2000" should not come before "1999").

12/25/99 - Merry Christmas!

Auction Action Tracker is due for another minor update, so 2.7.3 should be out soon. It will add some code to request that servers (such as your ISP's) do not cache information from eBay. An AAT user said that after bidding on an auction, his AAT stats were not updated. This update should correct this problem for him and other users with ISP's that cache their data.

2.7.3 will also introduce a "Priority" column in the Item List, where users can indicate that an item is important. This column will have the ability to be sorted, so users can group their priority items together. I know that this feature was not everything that everyone wanted, but it is a quick and dirty way to add some functionality while we wait for AAT's replacement to be completed.

Auction Action Tracker 2.7.3 should be available by the end of the weekend.

12/16/99 - The new auction utility's item lists are now loading, and support the ability to only load the particular information the user wants. The downside of this is that each auction's information is stored in a separate file, which slows down loading a bit. It is not very sluggish though, I have clocked it at around 114 auctions per second using five columns of data.

12/14/99 - The Winter Novelty web site is now hosted on pair Networks, a world-class provider that hosts sites such as Version Tracker. This should mean more uptime and faster download speeds. To celebrate this move (or maybe just for fun), the site has a new look to it.

The new auction utility is progressing, though it is still very far from being completed. I am happy to confirm that it will in fact use plug-ins for most server interaction. What does this mean? Well, for starters minor changes with an auction site's format will not require the user to download an updated application, but rather a small updated plug-in. This will also enable other users and I to write plug-ins for auction sites other than eBay.

I can also confirm that the utility will support multiple auction lists, to easily sort your auctions into categories (items up for sale, items you want to bid on, et cetera). To add to this functionality, the way item lists are viewed will be able to be customized by choosing what information you would like to view, as well as supporting resizable columns.

At the moment, the new utility is in a very primitive stage, and is not functional at all. I will try to keep everyone posted on my progress.

11/27/99 - Auction Action Tracker 2.7.2 has been released, and should fix all parsing errors related to eBay's minor page information change. All users of Auction Action Tracker should download this new version, as no previous version will work. After downloading the new version, run an "Update Item List" function return your auction titles to their proper state. Download it here!

New features and improvements:
•Auction Action Tracker will no longer incorrectly parse the bid information for auctions that have completed. This also includes the lack of reserve information. This was due to a slight change eBay made in their auction page information.
•The minimum width of the Item List Update window was adjusted for cosmetic reasons.
•Small bug fixed with the "View:Update Item List" menu item. The bug would cause the auction titles to not be displayed in the Item List Update window, under certain situations.

11/27/99 - eBay has again made a change in their page format. This has caused Auction Action Tracker to incorrectly parse the bid information in completed auctions. I will be gone this afternoon, but will try to release a fix tonight. Thanks for your patience!

11/06/99 - Auction Action Tracker 2.7.1 has been released, and should fix all parsing errors related to eBay's server trouble. All users of Auction Action Tracker should download this new version, as no previous version will work. After downloading the new version, run an "Update Item List" function return your auction titles to their proper state. Download it here!

New features and improvements:
•Auction Action Tracker will no longer parse all auction titles as "Browse?|". This was due to a sudden change eBay made due to server trouble.
•The Ban List window now has a "Add to Item List" button to put selected items back into the Item List.
•The "Remove" button in the Ban List window has been renamed to "Delete" to more accurately reflect its function in relation to the new "Add to Item List" button.
•The About Box no longer blacks the entire screen before displaying the graphic.

11/06/99 - Well, it's almost 4 AM, and I am quite tired. I looked at eBay's new format, and it will be an easy update for Auction Action Tracker. Unfortunately, do to the fact that I can barely stay awake to write this post, I will not be able to update, test, compile, and release the update tonight. When I wake up (probably this afternoon) I will get right to work on it. Thanks for your support and understanding.

11/05/99 - Some time last night eBay changed their item page format, causing Auction Action Tracker to incorrectly parse all item titles as "Browse?|?". This will be fixed as soon as possible. [Update: The problem actually occured when eBay's pic server crashed, causing eBay to replace all their graphic navigation links with text-based links. Auction Action Tracker did not anticipate this, and improperly parsed data.]

I am very busy today, as I must help edit some movies, as well as finish an interactive demonstration that shows a simple example of how computers add binary values. I will try to update Auction Action Tracker tonight, although I might not get to it until past midnight (which technically would be tomorrow). Thanks for your understanding.

11/01/99 - Work has begun on Auction Action Tracker's replacement, a collection of integrated tools to assist online auction users. These tools will include an item manager (basically what Auction Action Tracker does) and an auction search function (think Sherlock 2 only fast). I am also hoping for a built-in tool to list new auctions, as well as a tool to automate the process of sniping.

I am currently working on the layout of the utility's GUI and other interface-related code, but will soon start working on some functional code. Screenshots and/or movies should be available soon.

Q: What can I do to help development?

A: Help me think of a name! I am currently calling the project "Auction Tech" (think "Your auction technician"), but would like suggestions on what it should be named. E-mail me your suggestions and comments!

When suggesting names, please keep in mind that this will be a collection of tools to for both sellers and bidders, and may support auction sites other than eBay.

09/28/99 - Well, quite a bit has happened since my last update. Let's see...

First off, I have redesigned the site appearance and logo. The Feedback section has been replaced by the Support section, which now contains direct e-mail addresses instead of web-based forms. The Projects page was removed as it did not contain much information. The Software page was removed, as it was redundant since there were already separate pages for each product. The navigation bar's text links were replaced with icons.

Second, I am now the proud owner of a new Apple Power Mac G4! It is the 400 MHz model (the only one that is currently available), and it is wicked-fast. I sold my Power Mac G3 on eBay (with status updates via Auction Action Tracker, of course) to help pay for it.

Third, it has been six months since Auction Action Tracker's initial release, and there is finally some competition. Sometime yesterday, Black Magik Software released Auction Monitor, a program similar to Auction Action Tracker. Personally, I take this as a compliment, it shows that I had a truly innovative idea. However, there are many differences between the two utilities. For example, with Auction Monitor you can only monitor auctions you are selling, whereas with Auction Action Tracker you can monitor any auction you wish. This is due to Auction Monitor being geared only towards sellers, whereas Auction Action Tracker was designed for both sellers and bidders. Another difference is the price tag, Auction Monitor costs 50% more than my Auction Action Tracker.

Lastly, Auction Action Tracker 2.7 has been released. Download it now!

New features and improvements:
•When the Update Item List function detects that an item's bid has increased, it will now place brackets around the bid in the item list to alert you that it has changed. For example, if the item list has an item with a bid price of $1.00, and the Update Item List function is run, if the bid price is raised to $2.00 the item list will show "[$2.00]" instead of "$2.00" to show that it has changed. The brackets will also be shown if an Auction Status window detects a bid increase. The brackets can be reset via the "View:Reset Bid Column" menu item.
•New "View:Reset Bid Column". This will remove all brackets from the bid column of the item list.
•The Update Item List function now has the ability to update only the items selected in the item list. This functionality is enabled by holding down the option key, which will change the "Update Item List" button to a "Update Selected" button. This functionality can also be used with the new "View:Update Selected" menu item.
•New "View:Update Selected" menu item. This does the same as the new "Updated Selected" button.
•The bid column in the item list is now aligned to the right, making it easier to read.
•Bug fixed that caused very rare auctions (I've only found one) to show improperly parsed status data. This was caused by an extremely rare eBay HTML inconsistency.
•Fixed small error in the "Check For New Version" feature.
•Error fixed in the registration system that could add many blank items to your item list.

09/01/99 - Today was my first day of school, so I thought that I would address some of the issues that might surface because of this. Going back to school is a big transition, and will affect the development of Auction Action Tracker. Let me share my ideas on the future of AAT.

First, new feature development will stop immediately. The next release will fix some minor things, and possibly add a few small changes. I have received many requests for new features in AAT, such as color-coding, automated bid sniping, and other such features. I do not feel that most of these features can be easily applied to Auction Action Tracker in its current state. Therefore, development of Auction Action Tracker will then come to an end.

Second, when time is available, I will start developing a new eBay utility, based on Auction Action Tracker. It will probably look and behave similar to AAT, but the code driving it will be completely rewritten from scratch. I hope this will allow for easier future developments by redesigning it with a clearer vision of what it needs to do. After all, AAT was originally designed to do a lot less than it does now, and it is time to provide a well-designed architecture to accommodate its growth.

Any thoughts on this? Send them to me in the Feedback section of my site.

08/30/99 - Auction Action Tracker 2.6.2 has been released and is available in the Auction Action Tracker section. This version adds two bug fixes.

New features and improvements:
•Bug fixed with the Browser Pal function. If the "Add" button in the Browser Pal window was clicked while the Items window was closed, the item(s) would be added to the items list, but any items that were already present before the button was clicked would have been deleted.
•Time zone abbreviations were changed from the xST format to the xT format (EST to ET, etc.) to more accurately reflect the time zone.

08/26/99 - NOTICE: From Friday, Aug 27, to Monday, Aug 30, I will be away in Chicago for one last fling before school starts. During this time, I will be unable to reply to any mail/feedback I receive. This will also affect people who register Auction Action Tracker or Ring Master, as I will not be able to send them their registration codes until I get back. Thank you for your understanding.

08/25/99 - Auction Action Tracker 2.6.1 has been released and is available in the Auction Action Tracker section. This version adds some bug fixes and a way to check to see if a new version of AAT is available.

New features and improvements:
•New "Apple:Check For New Version..." menu item. This menu item will open a window which will check to see if a new version of Auction Action Tracker is available. If a new version is available, you will be presented with the version number, download location, and what is new in that version.
•Bug fixed that would cause controls inside a group box to be invisible when AAT was run under Mac OS 8.1 (and probably earlier versions). This caused controls such as the Default Section Settings in the AS Win. preferences, and all of the buttons in the Items window to not be displayed.
•Bug fixed that would cause running the Update Item List function more than once to update the same items multiple times. For example, if you had 10 items in your item list, running the Update Item List would correctly update the item list for the 10 items. However, running the Update Item List function again would update each item twice and show 20 as the number of items.
•Unnecessary sorting code removed.
•Optimized socket error handling.

08/19/99 - Auction Action Tracker 2.6 has been completed and is available in the Auction Action Tracker section. This version adds some nice improvements, including a new tool called "Browser Pal". The Browser Pal window is a very small global floater window which when opened will be visible in all applications, not just AAT. The Browser Pal window's purpose is to allow you to add auctions to the AAT item list from any application, not just AAT. This is very useful when browsing eBay auctions in a browser, because you do not have to take the time to switch to AAT to add an item.

New features and improvements:
•New "Browser Pal" window. This is a small global floater window which will be available in all applications, not just AAT. In the window is a small text box and an "Add" button. This window is designed to allow users that are browsing eBay auctions to add items without having to switch from their browser. If a number is entered, AAT will assume this is an item number and will attempt to add this item to the item list. If there are any non-numeric characters in the text box, AAT will assume this is an eBay user ID, and will attempt to Auto Load auctions using this user ID. Please note, if the text box has the focus and all keys presses are sent to it, you can remove the focus by clicking in the white area around it, or by pressing the "Add" button.
•The buttons in the Items window have been grouped into three categories, "Addition", "Interaction", and "Management".
•A "Browser Pal" button has been added to the "Addition" section of the Items window. This button will open the new "Browser Pal" window.
•A "View:Browser Pal" menu item has been added. This menu item will open the new "Browser Pal" window.
•The "Misc." preferences section was renamed to "AS Win.", which stands for "Auction Status Windows".
•New preferences item in the "AS Win." section called "Default Section Settings". This allows you to set the default collapsed/expanded state of the four sections of the Auction Status windows.
•The Item List Update window now shows the title of the current auction it is receiving data for.
•The Item List Update window will now update auction titles, just in case the seller of an item changes the item's title.
•New "Bid (AAT)" and "Open (Browser)" buttons have been added to the "Interaction" section of the Items window. These buttons do the same as their "Auction:Bid With AAT" and "Auction:Open With Browser" counterparts.
•A bug has been fixed involving AAT preferences for new users. In some parts of AAT's code, AAT would assume that certain folders in the "Auction Action Tracker Prefs ƒ" folder would exist. This was not the case for certain users new to AAT. This problem was fixed by replacing a good portion of the file handling code with more stable and efficient code, which also shaved about 42k off of AAT's size.
•The Items window should now format entities (special characters) when it refreshes itself from the cache.
•New "Ban" button in the "Management" section of the Items window. The "Delete" button will no longer change to a "Ban" button when the option key is held down.
•The About box has been altered slightly. It will now close when a key is pressed, and it no longer uses a separate image for the URL.
•The Items window's minimum size has been raised from 233 to 272 pixels to accommodate the new button grouping.
•The "New...", "Auto Load", and "Update" buttons have been renamed to "New Item...", "Auto Load...", and "Update Item List" respectively.
•Continuous event firing timing has been altered slightly to increase efficiency.

08/17/99 - Auction Action Tracker 2.6 will not be posted tonight. I have had massive power outages where I live, and have had very little time where I had the power to run my computer. My power company seems to have trouble keeping a breaker closed, so my power has gone off about 10 times with dozens of small bursts of power. When my power troubles are resolved, I will resume testing AAT 2.6 and will release it. Thank you for your understanding.

08/17/99 - Sorry for any downtime this site has seen, the server this site is hosted on went down for a bit. It seems there was a problem with the version of Apache the server was running, which was replaced with an older version.

Auction Action Tracker 2.6 is almost finished, and should be posted later today.

08/13/99 - A bug has been found in Auction Action Tracker involving the Update feature. The bug causes a message box to be displayed saying that "An exception of class NilObjectException was not handled." AAT must then be quit.

How to produce the error:

  1. If the folder "Item Cache ƒ" is in your "Auction Action Tracker Prefs ƒ" folder inside your preferences folder, delete it.
  2. If there are no items in your AAT item list, add some via the New or Auto Load command.
  3. Run an Update command.

After loading data for the first auction, the error will be displayed.

If you are experiencing this error, it is easily fixed. Simply open an item in the item list (double-click it or select it and click the Open button), then close it. This will create the "Item Cache ƒ" folder, which is needed to prevent the error.

This will be fixed in the next release of AAT.

08/11/99 - Auction Action Tracker 2.5 has been completed and is available in the Auction Action Tracker section. This release has the largest amount of new features and improvements ever! I encourage you to read the changes below or in the "Version Changes" text file included with Auction Action Tracker.

New features and improvements:
•New "Time" preferences section. This section gives you the power to have AAT automatically convert the eBay auction end and start times to your local time zone. After setting this option, use the Update function to update all the items to your local time. If you do not run an update, AAT may not return the correct time. If the time zone is set incorrectly, the new countdown feature will not return accurate information.
•A "Remaining (Local)" row has been added to the Auction Status windows. This row shows a countdown until the end of an auction based upon your system's clock and the settings in the new preferences section. If the Time preferences in AAT are setup incorrectly, this countdown will be inaccurate. Also, if you are going to rely on this feature, make sure your system's clock is set correctly.
•The "Remaining" row in the Auction Status windows has been renamed to "Remaining (eBay)" to more accurately reflect its function in relation to the new "Remaining (Local)" row.
•Using the technology of the new countdown feature in the Auction Status windows, the Items window will now show a countdown of the remaining time for an auction when it is clicked on. The countdown will be displayed in the lower right corner of the window. If multiple items are selected, the countdown will show the remaining time until the close of the first selected item.
•Auction Status windows now have a comments section where you can make notes about the item such as the amount you are willing to pay for it or any flaws the item may have.
•New "Edit:Clear Comments" menu item. This menu item will delete all comments left in the Comments section of the individual Auction Status windows.
•Auction Status windows now has disclosure triangles to collapse/expand the four sections of the window.
•The "View:Bidding", "View:Bidding & Time", and "View:Bidding & Time & Item" menu items have been removed. Their function has been replaced by the new disclosure triangles.
•New "Misc." preferences section with two items, "Auto Load Auction Status Windows" and "Beep on Bid Increase". "Auto Load Auction Status Windows" controls whether or not Auction Status windows will automatically retrieve current data from eBay when they are opened (sort of an online/offline mode). If you keep this setting on, you can still load items offline by holding down the option key when you are opening them (the "Open" button will turn into a "Open Offline" button). "Beep on Bid Increase" gives the ability to control whether or not AAT will play the system beep when an Auction Status window detects a bid increase (when the green arrow is displayed).
•There is now a new popup menu next to the "Auto Reload" checkbox in the Auction Status windows. This popup menu provides the ability to override the default Auto Reload Preferences with a different reload frequency.
•The labeling "Frequency:" in the Auto Reload Preferences section was renamed to "Default Frequency:" to more accurately reflect its new function in relation to the new Auto Reload popup menu.
•New "Update" preferences section with the options to automatically update the item list on startup and/or whenever the Items window is reopened (via the "View:Item List") menu item.
•New "File:Export:Tab-Delimited Text" menu item. This menu item is available when the Items window is frontmost and will export the items list to a tab-delimited text file for easy importation into a spreadsheet.
•The Item List Update window now has an Auto Reload-like option called "Run Continuously". When this is on, the update process will continuously run, allowing you to stay current on all of your auctions at once.
•Next to the new Run Continuously option in the Item List Update window is a popup menu, identical to the new popup menu in the item windows, which allows you to specify a delay between updates.
•Auction Status windows will now remember their settings. This includes the state of the new disclosure triangles, the value of the Auto Reload checkbox, the value of the customized Auto Reload Frequency popup, and the window's width and position. Note that if an Auction Status window is pushed all the way to one side and closed, if the screen size gets smaller the window will reopen with at least ten pixels of the sides showing. Basically, rather than the window opening offscreen, it will open with a little bit showing so you can drag it back.
•New "Edit:Clear Item Prefs" menu item. This menu item will delete the custom settings of the individual Auction Status windows.
•The word "Catagory" is now correctly spelled "Category" in the item windows. This was thought to be fixed in version 2.1, but was only partially fixed. In 2.1 when an item window was opened for the first time, "Category" was spelled correctly, but after it had loaded it was spelled incorrectly. This has now been fixed.
•Holding down the option key will now only change the Delete button to the Ban button and the Open button to the new Open Offline button when Auction Action Tracker is in the foreground.
•Bug fix for bidding in dutch auctions. Because of the recent eBay layout change, bidding on a dutch auction would cause AAT to not display a bid confirmation message. Bids would still be placed, but no confirmation was given.
•The "File:New", "File:Auto Load", "Edit:Preferences", and "View:Ban List" menu items now have an ellipsis ("…") at the end to comply with Apple's Human Interface Guidelines.
•A bit of code designed to help prevent crashes was removed from AAT. It seems to be responsible for not allowing some users to close the Items window or quit.
•Another bid of code designed to help prevent crashes was removed from AAT. It was designed to constantly check the amount of available RAM given to AAT, and quit AAT if it got too low. This should be fine, unless you are planning on having many Auction Status windows open at once, in which case you should give AAT more RAM. This was removed as it was incompatible with the new "Export" feature.
•The Item List Update window will now remember its width.
•Preferences data, item data, and registration data loading sequencing has been altered slightly.

07/29/99 - A new product, previously mentioned in my Projects section, has been released into beta testing. The product, Ring Master, is a simple utility to detect when the phone line connected to your modem is ringing. When it senses a ring, Ring Master will display a global floater alert window informing the user of an "Incoming Call".

What good is this, some may ask? Well, I frequently wear headphones (to listen to music) while I am at my computer, and because of this, I may not hear my phone ringing. So, this utility assists me by notifying me when the phone is ringing. This utility could also be useful for people who have their computers away from their phones, or for users with hearing dificulty.

The latest beta version can be found in the Ring Master section.

07/28/99 - Auction Action Tracker 2.2.1 has been completed and is available in the Auction Action Tracker section. This version corrects for a slight eBay bidding format change.

07/24/99 - Auction Action Tracker 2.2 has been completed and is available in the Auction Action Tracker section.

New features and improvements:
•"Continuous Reload" renamed to "Auto Reload" to reflect the new preferences options.
•New Preferences window (accessed via the Edit:Preferences menu item) with "Auto Reload" and "Fonts" sections. The Auto Reload section allows you to choose between 9 point and 12 point fonts, and whether or not to make the text bold. Changes to the font settings are not reflected in currently open windows until they are reopened. The Auto Reload section allows you to set a delay between reloads.
•To accommodate the larger fonts, the Item List Update window and Auction Status windows can now be resized.
•The Item List Update window now closes when it is finished.
•The "Bid Cache ƒ" folder has been renamed to "Item Cache ƒ". The contents of the "Bid Cache ƒ" folder are not moved to the new folder. You can remove the "Bid Cache ƒ" folder from your "Auction Action Tracker Prefs ƒ" folder in your preferences folder.
•The About Box now shows my new web site, www.winternovelty.com.

07/21/99 - Silver Thread has been renamed to Winter Novelty, and has been moved to <www.winternovelty.com>. Like the new look? Let me know in the Feedback section!

07/09/99 - Auction Action Tracker 2.1 has been completed and is available in the Auction Action Tracker section.

New features and improvements:
•New "Update" button in the Items window. This button opens up a new window called the Item List Update window. This window will contact eBay and receive current data on all auctions in your item list. It will then update the bid and high bidder columns with the new data.
•New "View:Item List Update" menu item. This does the same as the "Update" button mentioned above.
•The Items window now has a minimum size of 620x233 to accommodate the new "Update" button.
•The new item dialog box will now accept URLs. When browsing eBay auctions in a web browser, it can sometimes be easier to copy the entire URL of an auction, rather than selecting and copying the item number. This function works by taking the input, removing all non-numeric characters starting from the right, then reading all numeric characters until it encounters a non-numeric character.
•The new item dialog box now says "Enter item number or URL" to accommodate the new URL feature.
•"Catagory" in the item status windows is now correctly spelled "Category"...whoops!

07/04/99 - Auction Action Tracker 2.0.4 has been completed and is available in the Auction Action Tracker section.

New features and improvements:
•New "File:Save Item List" menu item. This menu item will save changes made to the Item List. This process is still done automatically when the Item List is closed or AAT is quit, but was implemented because in the event of a crash, changes would not be saved. This gives users the ability to save their work as they go.
•Items with no high bidder that are added with the Auto Load feature now correctly show "--" instead of nothing in the Item List.

06.12.99 - eBay has been experiencing some problems, and has unfortunately gone back to the old auction format. This has caused AAT 2.0.3 to not fully function. Until eBay goes back to the new format, AAT 2.0.2 should be used instead. AAT 2.0.2 can be downloaded here.

06.09.99 - Auction Action Tracker 2.0.3 has been completed and is available in the Software section.

New features and improvements:
•AAT should now work with eBay's new appearance changes.

05.25.99 - Auction Action Tracker 2.0.2 has been completed and is available in the Software section.

New features and improvements:
•Bidding now works with eBay's bidding procedure changes.
•Bidding window now remembers your user ID and will remember your password if you check the "Save Password" checkbox. Please note that AAT does not encrypt the preference file that saves your login data, so anyone with access to your computer could get your eBay password if you use the "Save Password" option.
•AAT will now play the system beep when the number of bids has increased (when the green arrow is displayed).
•AAT should now correctly display the Euro currency character ("£") for UK auctions.

05.14.99 - Auction Action Tracker 2.0.1 has been completed and is available in the Software section.

New features and improvements:
•AAT 2.0.1 should now work correctly with Mac OS 8.6.
•The item list's bid and high bidder columns are now automatically updated when an auction status window detects a change. If you want to update the whole items list, just open every auction, let them load, then close them all.
•The "View:Update From Cache" menu item was removed. The item list now automatically updates itself from the cache when it is opened.
•The "Auction:Open" menu item has been renamed to "Auction:Open With Browser" to more accurately reflect its function.
•The "Auction:Bid" menu item has been renamed to "Auction:Bid With AAT" to more accurately reflect its function.
•The registration reminder will no longer open for unregistered users who choose the "View:Item List" menu item.

05.13.99 - There seems to be some incompatability between Auction Action Tracker 2.0 and MacOS 8.6. Users report that they receive error messages on startup. I'm looking into it.

05.13.99 - Auction Action Tracker 2.0 has been completed and is available in the Software section.

New features and improvements:
-New bid window accessed from the "Auction:Bid" menu item.
-"Browser" menu has been renamed to "Auction". "Auction:Open" works the same as "Browser:Open" used to. "Auction:Bid" no longer opens the item in a browser, but instead opens the new bid window allowing the user to bid from within AAT.
-Item list and ban list now have five columns: number, end date, bid, high bidder, and title. This gives the user more information and a more Finder-like feel to AAT. The bid and high bidder can be updated from the cache via the "View:Update From Cache" menu item.
-The "View:Arrange:by Item Number", "View:Arrange:by End Date", and "View:Arrange:by Title" menu items have been removed. Their function was replaced by the new column headers in the Item and Ban lists.
-All auction data is now cached, not just the number of bids. When an auction status window is opened, the information received is cached so that the next time you open it the previous state is immediately displayed while new, current data is being loaded.
-New "Auction:Reload" and "Auction:Stop" menu items. These do the same as the "Reload" and "Stop" buttons in an auction status window.
-The Auto Load feature now remembers the last user ID you used.
-The Items window can now be closed by clicking the close box or choosing the "File:Close" menu item.
-New "View:Item List" menu item to reopen the Items window once it has been closed.
-The Items window now remembers its size and position, returning itself to that size and position when it is reopened.
-Auctions can now be opened in your Internet Config-selected browser from the item list, without having to open a status window, via the "Auction:Open" menu item.
-Closing an auction status window now automatically resets the green arrow. This is to remain consistent with the new auction data caching. Users can still click the green arrow to reset it.
-The Items window now has a minimum size of 620x200. This is for compatibility with the new column headers in the item and ban lists.
-Item number sorting now works correctly when sorting 8 character and 9 character item numbers.
-Bug fixed with opening multiple auction status windows at once with item numbers of varying lengths.
-Bug with green arrow fixed. This bug would cause the green arrow to display when the number of bids had not increased, whenever the screen was redrawn (such as when AAT was hidden and then brought back to the front).

05.12.99 - Redesigned the site.

04.28.99 - Auction Action Tracker 1.5 has been completed and is available in the Software section.

New features and improvements:
-New "Ban" button in the Items window. The button is not normally visible, but when the option key is held down, the delete button turns into the "Ban" button. This button adds the currently selected item(s) to the ban list, preventing them from being added to the items list. This is useful if you have bid on something, but the bidding has passed what you wish to spend and you do not want the item to be added via the Auto Load option.
-New "File:New", "File:Open", "File:Auto Load", "File:Delete", and "File:Ban" menu items. These menu items have button counterparts, and were created to give keyboard control to AAT.
-New "Alert on Bid Increase" feature. When an auction status window is opened, AAT will now show a green arrow next to the current bid if the number of bids has increased. This arrow will stay until it is clicked, which resets it.
-New "Edit:Clear Cache" menu item. This will delete the cache created by the new "Alert on Bid Increase" feature.
-New "View:Ban List" menu item. This will present the currently banned auctions, and allow the user to remove auctions from this list.
-Fixed a bug which caused the Auto Load feature to not work with users who are selling or bidding a lot. The problem occurred when the amount of HTML data Auction Action Tracker had to process was greater than 32k.
-New "About Auction Action Tracker..." about box dialog with improved graphics.
-Fixed an inconsistency in the end date formatting in the Items window.

04.11.99 - Auction Action Tracker 1.2 has been completed and is available in the Software section.

New features and improvements:
-New "View:Bidding", "View:Bidding & Time", and "View:Bidding & Time & Item" menu items. These new menu items will alter the information displayed in an auction status window, allowing the user to see only the information he/she wants.
-New "View:Remove Duplicates" menu item. This menu item, when the Items window is frontmost, will attempt to remove duplicate entries from the items list.
-Better crash error message.

04.07.99 - Auction Action Tracker 1.1.1 has been completed and is available in the Software section. This version fixes a bug that could cause auctions' statistics to be parsed incorrectly.

04.07.99 - A bug has been found in Auction Action Tracker. I've been trying to pinpoint the bug since the initial release, but it seemed to disappear. The problem is sometimes the statistics in an auctions' item window are not properly parsed (the first bid could be listed as the quantity, et cetera). I am working to correct this bug. The temporary solution: keep reloading until it corrects itself. It usually will properly parse the data in only a few reloads.

04.06.99 - Auction Action Tracker 1.1 has been completed and is available in the Software section. This version adds some very useful requested features.

New features and improvements:
-Item list now shows the auction's end times. NOTE: End dates will not be displayed for auctions already in your item list from a previous version. Only new auctioned added with the "New..." or "Auto Load" buttons will show the end date.
-New "View" menu with "View:Arrange:by End Date", "View:Arrange:by Item Number", and "View:Arrange:by Name" menu items. These new menu items allow auctions in the item list to be sorted by different values. NOTE: Older auctions in the item list from previous versions may not be able to be sorted, especially by end date.
-New "Edit:Select All" menu item. This menu item, when the Items window is frontmost, will select all auctions in the item list.
-Items window is now resizable.

04.03.99 - Auction Action Tracker has been completed and is available in the Software section.

03.30.99 - I am almost finished on my project. It's called Auction Action Tracker, and is a quick and easy way to check the status of eBay auctions. It supports continuous reloading, very handy in the last few minutes of an auction, and can automatically load all your current auctions as well as auctions you've bid on. There is very little left for me to do, just some interface improvements, more socket control, and some minor HTML processing improvements.

03.12.99 - I have got a project in the works. I can't tell you much about it yet, but I know that I will use it, so there will probably be other people who want to use it too. I have no idea when I will finish, but I haven't encountered any problems yet.

03.12.99 - NiftyCountdown 1.5.2 has been released and is available in the Software section. This version corrects a bug in the audio loop handling. When a user would chose the "Continuously" play time option, there could be delays between plays. This bug occurred when the loop was set to anything but "Never" and the loop delay was set to anything but "None". Basically, even though the loop and loop delay popup menus were disabled, their settings could still affect the audio.

03.04.99 - Removed banner from software page. I was thinking of making NiftyCountdown shareware, but decided to see if I could make some money through a banner. About 500 people viewed the banner since I put it up. Out of those 500, I got 30 cents. It is not worth 30 cents to make 500 people download an image that they do not care about, not to mention that it does not look very good on my site. NiftyCountdown will remain freeware, for now at least.

03.01.99 - NiftyCountdown 1.5.1 has been completed and is available in the Software section. This version corrects a bug that has been around since 1.2 where a user would get an "Invalid timer value," error message when trying to use a minute or second timer value greater than 23. This was caused by me using cut-n-paste, rather than typing out the code like a man. :-)

02.28.99 - It is 10:56 PM now, and NiftyCountdown 1.5 is done. Get it in the Software section.

New features:

-Ability to have customizable audio alerts when a countdown reaches 00.00.00.00
-New buttons for editing and deleting the current color scheme.
-Color picker now used in creation/editing of color schemes.
-Optimized timer code.
-Optimized error handling.
-New "About NiftyCountdown..." dialog.

02.28.99 - It is 12:49 AM as I write this, I am about to go to sleep. After a hard day of work, NiftyCountdown 1.5 is almost finished. I hope for it to be available later today, but there will probably be some unforeseen complication. Audio support seems to be finished. I am also hoping to add support for global floater windows and using the color picker to create color schemes. I will just have to wait and see how it goes when I wake up, however.

02.26.99 - I apologize for not updating my site in a while, I have been very busy. Silver Thread now sports a new color scheme, that I like much more than the old one. I have been working in my precious free time to update NiftyCountdown. I have set up all the variables, so, in theory, it should be smooth sailing from here.

02.01.99 - I am currently working on a new version of NiftyCountdown that will have the ability to play an alert-type sound when a countdown reaches 00.00.00.00. I hope for it to support looping this sound at selected intervals. I would like to have this be the last release of NiftyCountdown for a while anyway, so that I can start on something else. The next release may be the last for a while, so get those feature requests in!

01.25.99 - NiftyCountdown 1.2 has been completed and is available in the Software section.

New features:

-"Auto Start" preferences option starts the countdown on startup (useful if you have NC in your startup items folder).
-Timer feature counts down user-entered days, hours, minutes, and seconds.
-Text message feature allows the user to display a text message above countdown.

01.19.99 - Work has been started on the next release of NiftyCountdown. I expect it to be available sometime in the next few days. Some new features include the ability to start the countdown automatically (so you could put a copy of NiftyCountdown in your Startup Items folder), a customizable text message above the countdown, and timer functionality (countdown a certain number of days, hours, minutes, and seconds). Look for the next release soon!

01.10.99 - NiftyCountdown 1.1.1 has been completed and is available in the Software section.

New features:

-Supports the date formats of different regions
-Supports counting the elapsed time since an event (just enter a date that has already passed)
-Saves countdown info to a preference file so you can resume without having to reenter the date and time.

01.04.99 - According to reports, NiftyCountdown does not work correctly on systems setup to format dates differently than the US format (MM/DD/YY). I am currently working to correct this, as well as adding more features. More information can be obtained at my Projects page.

01.02.99 - Due to supportive feedback, in regards to NiftyCountdown, from a gentleman in Texas (you know who you are), I am working on adding the ability to count the time SINCE an event. Look for it soon!

01.01.99 - NiftyCountdown 1.1 has been completed and is available in the Software section.

New features:

-Significant speed increase due to REALbasic.
-Significant speed increase due to a more efficient method of counting down.
-More stable.
-Support for counting down to a specific time of a day, not just 12:00 a.m.
-Four window sizes available, including full screen.
-Basic color scheme support including changing schemes from the Finder.

12.24.98 - Dug up an old HyperCard stack I made called NiftyCountdown. It was a very simple utility that would countdown the remaining days, hours, minutes, and seconds until a specified date. I have started working on a new, better version of this app in REALbasic.

11.29.98 - Abandoned chat/file transfer project.

11.27.98 - Work on a chat and file transfer utility has begun. This will not actually be released, but is more of an introduction for me to REALbasic.

11.22.98 - Redesigned web site. I got rid of all the old HyperCard software, and am starting from scratch with REALbasic. Work on several different applications has begun.
